  • An intricate Art Deco 1920s Butterfly Wing Pendant necklace. This beautiful scene of a beach with golden sands and a palm tree was made using iridescent butterfly wings. It was made by using a technique called reverse painting, where the butterfly wings were placed onto the back of the glass and then mounted in sterling silver. Which is finished off with a decorative border and a flower bail.  This exquisite pendant is suspended from its original sterling silver Singapore chain. This technique is called reverse intaglio or Essex crystal as it is also known. The technique was first developed in the mid-1800s and remained popular right up to the 1930s.
