  • An intricate 9ct gold and silver tortoiseshell pique cross pendant. Pique is a technique in which gold and silver are inlaid into tortoiseshell. Pique jewellery became very popular in Victorian times with large amounts being produced in Birmingham in the 1870s, made possible due to advances in production techniques. Allowing a master carver to create this image of a beautiful lady in fine detail with a contrasting background. On the back of the cameo a natural discrepancy can be seen and also felt, which authenticates this cornelian shell.
