  • A highly decorative Victorian tortoiseshell pique brooch. Pique was a technique that used gold and silver to inlaid a decorative pattern. It was first introduced in Italy during the 1600s, but reached its heyday in the mid-1800s. The front of this tortoiseshell brooch is in perfect condition. However, there is a chip to the rim at the back of this brooch as can be seen in the photo. This chip cannot be seen from the front of the brooch when worn, however, there is a small crack visible.   • A pair of genuine Victorian garnet earrings. Two very well matched oval cut garnet gemstones with a combined weight of 1.60ct, set in rich 9ct yellow gold. Garnets derived their name from the Latin word "granatum" which means pomegranate and was believed to represent primordial fire.  These earrings are fitted with their original kidney wires, circa the 1880s. Each round cut diamond is secured by a claw setting and is accentuated by elaborate carvings. The combined weight of both diamonds is 34 points. Cornelian shells are comprised of two layers, a white marble type layer and a darker normally light brown layer. This allows the carver to create a contrasting background.
